Active Release Techniques (ART®)

Active Release Techniques (ART®)

Active Release Techniques (ART®) focuses on releasing muscular shortness and tightness. It is a safe, very effective, hands-on technique that involves applying gentle, sustained pressure during movement to myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. ART® therapy is a medically patented, non-invasive soft tissue injury technique that works to break up scar tissue that can form at the site of repetitive movement and acute injury.

When soft tissue injuries are not treated, increased scar tissue can form impairing movement and motion, the biomechanical functions of your body can be impacted, and tissue degeneration can occur. In addition to breaking up painful adhesions and restrictions, Active Release Techniques promotes increased blood flow to the site of the injury, boosting the body’s natural healing response.

What Conditions Can Be Treated With Active Release Techniques?

The hands-on approach of ART® allows your practitioner to accurately detect any fascial restrictions and effectively facilitate fascial release. Some of the conditions that can benefit from the application of Active Release Therapy include:

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Headaches Including Migraines
  • Hip, Knee And Ankle Pain
  • Neck Pain
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Sciatica
  • Shin Splints
  • Shoulder, Elbow, And Wrist Pain
  • Sports And Running Injuries
  • Stress-Related Muscle Tension
  • Tennis/Golfer’s Elbow
  • Upper, Middle, Or Lower Back Pain
  • Whiplash And Motor Vehicle Accident Injuries
  • Nerve Entrapments (and related numbness or tingling)

Why Choose Active Release Techniques (ART®)?

Active Release Techniques is an advanced therapy to quickly and accurately identify and treat soft tissue injuries using precise manipulation and deliberate movement. Soft tissue impairments can happen due to acute injury (trauma), repetitive-movement injury, inflammation, and even as a result of surgical interventions. ART® provides a completely personalized approach to healing based on your unique physiology and injury. Many patients experience pain relief and improved movement after just one ART® session and full relief can be experienced in as few as three or four treatments. Regardless of your injury, your practitioner can leverage the efficacy of Active Release Techniques alone or integrate other complementary treatment modalities to help you achieve your goals for complete health and well-being.

ART® FAQs

On average, an Active Release Techniques session will last about 15 minutes.

When administered by a certified and experienced ART® practitioner, Active Release Techniques should not hurt. Some patients experience very mild fatigue or discomfort similar to a post-workout ache after an ART® session. If your practitioner is causing pain, they are not performing active release therapy correctly.

Many private health insurance providers have coverage for Active Release Techniques treatment. It is also possible to leverage your health spending account for ART®. Check with your provider for specific coverage details on your plan. We do offer direct billing as a convenience for you.
